Dustin Yellin Debuts Animated Short 'Goodnight Lamby' at Cannes with Paul Rudd

artist · 2026-05-18

Artist Dustin Yellin has premiered his first film, the animated short 'Goodnight Lamby,' at the Cannes Film Festival. Produced by Darren Aronofsky's AI-forward studio Primordial Soup, the film is a love letter to Yellin's daughter Zia, following a hero's journey to rescue her favorite stuffed animal. Yellin, known for his glass sculptures and as founder of Pioneer Works in Red Hook, describes his practice as 'frozen cinema.' The short features actor Paul Rudd as 'Papa,' a role originally intended for Yellin. Rudd, a friend of Yellin, was cast last minute and filmed over a day or two. The animation was created with Ricardo Villavicencio and a team Yellin previously worked with on a David Byrne music video. Yellin's daughter Zia, who turned 4, was involved in the process and has seen the film. Yellin is now considering an animated feature and has a sci-fi script he wants to develop.
