Dürer's Italian Journey Inspires Major Exhibition at Castello del Buonconsiglio
In 2024, Trento's Castello del Buonconsiglio will host a significant exhibition centered on Albrecht Dürer's journey to Italy during the 1494-95 plague in Nuremberg. This event will bring together Dürer's watercolor of the castle, currently held by the British Museum, with its original location. The exhibition will showcase four notable oil paintings: 'Adoration of the Magi' from the Uffizi, 'Portrait of a Young Man' from Palazzo Rosso, 'Saint Jerome' from the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Siena, and 'Christ among the Doctors' from the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza. Additionally, it will include various drawings and engravings, highlighting Dürer's influence on artists in Trentino. This exhibition coincides with the museum's centenary in April 2024, focusing on 15th-century Trento, Emperor Maximilian I, and cultural exchanges with the Habsburg Empire and Veneto.
