Dulce Tumaco: Cacao and Afro-Colombian Identity in Bogotá
Curated by José Roca, director of FLORA ars+natura, the exhibition 'Dulce Tumaco' at Zona T in Bogotá features works by fifteen artists exploring the complexities of cacao cultivation near Tumaco, a port in Nariño department on the Colombian Pacific coast. Through installations, videos, photographs, sculptures, and testimonies, the show reflects on cacao production's impact on Afro-Colombian communities. Some works resulted from short residencies in Tumaco, where artists engaged with communities preserving ancestral cacao species and resisting coca cultivation in a region marked by violence and marginalization. Participating artists include Liliana Angulo, Alberto Baraya, Monika Bravo, Herlyng Ferla, Ericka Flórez, Simón Hernández, Oswaldo Maciá, Gustavo Mindineros, Santiago Montoya, Fabio Melecio Palacios, Plu Con Pla, Aura Mailén Quiñónez, Carlos Rodríguez (el Diablo), Miguel Ángel Rojas, Henry Salazar, Juan Eugenio Marquínez, and Venuz White. The exhibition runs until December 15, 2018, with free admission from Tuesday to Sunday, 2–7 pm.
