Duilio Cambellotti's World Returns to Castel Sant'Angelo

exhibition · 2026-05-25

Castel Sant'Angelo reopens the Cambellotti Rooms on May 20, 2026, marking the centenary of the decorations and 150 years since the artist's birth. The rooms—Sala delle Colonne, Sala dei Reparti d'Assalto, and Sala della Cavalleria—were decorated between 1925 and 1926 to house flags of regiments disbanded after WWI. The reopening coincides with the exhibition 'Cambellotti. Tutto diventa forma. Tessili e decorazione tra visione e materia,' curated by Luca Mercuri. It features works from the Archivio dell'Opera di Duilio Cambellotti, including sculptures, temperas, posters, and drawings, displayed in dialogue with the decorated spaces. Textiles owned by Cambellotti, donated by Francesco Tetro and restored for the first time, are exhibited. The project includes immersive soundscapes and accessibility tools like virtual tours, tactile reproductions, and Braille transliterations in collaboration with Handy Systems Onlus. The exhibition runs until September 6, 2026.
