Dudovich Exhibition at Miramare Castle Explores Photography and Poster Art
Over 300 works by Marcello Dudovich (1878–1962) are on display at Castello di Miramare in Trieste until January 10, 2021. The exhibition, titled 'Marcello Dudovich (1878-1962) – fotografia fra arte e passione,' is curated by Roberto Curci and Nicoletta Ossanna Cavadini in collaboration with the m.a.x. museo in Chiasso. It highlights the relationship between photography and poster design through Dudovich's career. Born in Trieste, Dudovich lived in Bologna, Genoa, Milan, Munich, and Turin. A successful illustrator and poster artist, he was described as 'often avant-garde but never disruptive.' He created iconic posters for Mele department stores in Naples, Borsalino, La Rinascente in Milan, Campari, Martini, Agfa, and Pirelli. An avid photographer, Dudovich used photographic references conceptually, often taking his own photos or using those by family members and other famous photographers.
