DS+R to Design Cafe and Biofiltration System at New York Botanical Garden
The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) has chosen Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) to design a new café and a 'living biofiltration system' at its Bronx site. This project, in partnership with SCAPE and Natural Systems Utilities, aims to improve visitor amenities in the southeastern part of the garden. The new features will be built over the Bronx River, next to the Thain Family Forest and Rockefeller Rose Garden, transforming a parking lot into a wetland meadow. NYBG's CEO, Jennifer Bernstein, pointed out that this will be NYC's first biofiltration system, serving as a 'living laboratory.' This initiative follows recent architectural upgrades at NYBG, including installations by Weiss/Manfredi and a climate device.
