Drusilla Foer to Discuss Pontormo's Venus at Florence's Galleria dell'Accademia
On November 20, 2023, the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence will host a special evening event titled "Drusilla preferisce Venere," featuring the beloved theatrical character Drusilla Foer. Invited personally by museum director Cecile Hollberg, Foer will offer a fresh perspective on the museum's collection, focusing on Pontormo's 1533 painting "Venere e cupido" rather than Michelangelo's David. The work, inspired by Michelangelo's preparatory cartoon, depicts the myth of Venus and Cupid, exploring spiritual and sensual love through symbols like a quiver, arrow, flowers, and masks that represent the transience of passions. Foer will delve into the role and characteristics of Venus, starting with Pontormo's representation and extending to works by Bronzino and others. Drusilla Foer is the alter ego of Gianluca Gori (born 1967 in Florence), an actor, singer, and photographer. Created in 2011 via YouTube interview "Venti minuti di lei" directed by Luca Masci, Foer is a progressive noblewoman from Siena, a gay and style icon. She has appeared on television (The Show Must Go Off with Serena Dandini, Maurizio Costanzo Show, CR4 La Repubblica delle Donne di Chiambretti), in films (Ferzan Ozpetek's "Magnifica Presenza," Sky Arte's "L'ultima de' Medici"), and co-hosted the third evening of the 72nd Sanremo Festival with Amadeus. The event is free with reservation via Eventbrite.
