Drodesera Festival Closes with Night of Performance and Darkness
The 38th edition of the Drodesera festival, titled Supercontinent², concluded on July 28, 2018, at Centrale Fies in Dro, Italy. The festival, directed by artistic directors and curators, featured a program split into two sections: the LIVE WORKS Performance Act Awards for performance art and a selection of more spectacular works. The closing night focused on darkness and minority perspectives, including childhood. Philipp Gehmacher presented his 2013 piece My shapes, your words, their grey, exploring grey movement and ambiguous choreographic codes. Sarah Vanhee/CAMPO performed Unforetold, an ode to darkness sung in the invented language Lutie Chaakaa by a group of children aged 8 to 11, developed through a months-long workshop. Dewey Dell presented I am within, a choreographic work for two young performers, Gioia and Alma Pascucci, aged 12 and 6, exploring shipwreck and defense through hyperrealist movement. The evening also included Sotterraneo's OVERLOAD, inspired by David Foster Wallace, and a concert by Norwegian musician Thea Hjelmeland. A notable exhibition honored Trentino artist Giovanni Morbin, known for his conceptual and performative work.
