Dries Van Noten Opens Fondazione in Venice with Craftsmanship Exhibition
Fondazione Dries Van Noten has opened in Venice's Palazzo Pisani Moretta, a 15th-century former warehouse on the Grand Canal. The foundation, founded by Dries Van Noten and his partner Patrick Vangheluwe, celebrates handmade creation. Its debut exhibition, 'The Only True Protest is Beauty,' features hundreds of works spanning fashion, jewelry, glass, ceramics, photography, furniture design, and sculpture. The show includes video screens on black totems showing creators at work. Artists include Joseph Arzoumanov, who created an AI-programmed chess set with gold, silk, Armenian volcanic stone, and marquetry; Lucas Wedgeworth, who combines smashed ceramics with hand-grown crystals; Kaori Kurihara, whose ceramics develop like living organisms; Ann Carrington, who crafts totems from twisted forks; and Ayham Hassan, a Palestinian designer using repurposed leather from slingshots. Van Noten emphasizes the importance of human making and accepting errors and coincidence. The exhibition runs from April 25 to October 4, 2026.
