Drawing Room Madrid Expands to Lisbon with New Fair

Drawing Room Lisboa, a new fair dedicated to contemporary drawing and works on paper, will hold its inaugural edition from October 10 to 14, 2018, at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes in Lisbon, near Avenida da Liberdade. The event is under the artistic direction of Maria do Mar Fazenda. Conceived by Spanish curator and cultural manager Mónica Álvarez Careaga, the fair aims to fill a gap in Lisbon's art calendar by offering a specialized focus on drawing. Álvarez Careaga noted that Lisbon's vibrant art scene, bolstered by spaces like the MAAT (opened in 2016) and the Serralves Museum, made the city a natural next step after fairs in Paris (Drawing Now), Brussels (Art on Paper), Lugano (Wopart), and Madrid (Drawing Room). The fair will feature 20 galleries, with a targeted 50% Portuguese participation, including first-time exhibitors Miguel Nabinho, Graça Brandao, and Pedro Oliveira. International participants include Spanish galleries Silvestre (Madrid), Yusto/Giner (Marbella), and Siboney (Santander), as well as Donopoulos (Thessaloniki, Greece), RV (Salvador da Bahia, Brazil), Rosalux (Berlin), and Jeanne Bucher Jaeger (Paris), which recently opened a second space in Lisbon. The fair follows the expansion of Spanish art fairs into Portugal, after ArcoLisboa (now in its third year) and JustLX (debuting in 2018).
