Drawing Room Madrid 2018: 30 Galleries and a Focus on Drawing

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

Drawing Room, the Madrid fair dedicated to contemporary drawing, returns for its third edition from February 22 to 25, 2018, at the Circulo de Bellas Artes. This year, 30 galleries participate, up from 20 in 2017, with 11 international and 18 Spanish galleries presenting 70 artists. Director Monica Álvarez notes that drawing represents about 24% of the global art market, citing growing collector interest in unique works on paper. A curated section, "Isole del disegno: tracce comuni," organized by Portuguese curator Emilia Ferreira (director of Museu Nacional do Chiado, Lisbon), features nine artists from the Balearic Islands exploring the relationship between self and environment, supported by the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics. Italian galleries return: A01 Gallery (Naples), D406 Fedeli alla linea (Modena), debutant A29 Project Room (Milan and Caserta), and Madrid's Lucia Mendoza showing works by Stefano Bonacci. A collateral exhibition, "A Perdita d'Occhio," presents the first Spanish solo show of Italian artist Marco Cordero, curated by Claudio Cravero and organized with Turin gallery Opere Scelte.
