Drawing as Political Gesture: Group Show in Venice

A group exhibition at Galleria A plus A in Venice explores drawing as an autonomous artistic medium and a tool for social commentary. Titled "La politica del disegno" (The Politics of Drawing), the show features works by Alberto Tadiello, Rebecca Agnes, Impresari, Matteo Stocco, Guendalina Cerruti, Ryts Monet, Davide Sgambaro, Enej Gala, Lia Cecchin, Roberto Fassone, Rebecca Moccia, and Sulitane Tusha. The artists use raw drawing to examine contemporary issues such as borders, money, poverty, fear, prejudice, and hatred. Tadiello's "Babele" resonates with Agnes's fear-filled maps; Stocco's "Europiave" and Cerruti's "Still Life" reflect ephemeral boundaries. Monet and Sgambaro address the omnipresence and absence of money, while Gala, Cecchin, and Fassone explore distrust of the other. Moccia's sketches of hate and anger echo in Tusha's vermilion capital vices. The exhibition presents fragments of an eternal present rendered in matter, color, and line.
