Drapeau Gris at capc Musée d'art contemporain, Bordeaux
Curated by Anthony Huberman and artist Paul Pfeiffer, the exhibition 'Drapeau Gris' at capc Musée d'art contemporain in Bordeaux (December 20, 2006 – March 18, 2007) gathered works by about twenty American and European artists. Previously shown at Sculpture Center in New York, the Bordeaux iteration was adapted to the museum's large nave. The exhibition intentionally avoided thematic coherence or didactic framing, instead foregrounding uncertainty—not confusion, but a productive openness that allows multiple directions and resists fixed definitions. Works included Seth Price's press release and exhibition title, Helen Chadwick's 'Piss Flowers', Lutz Bacher's 'Robots', Liam Gillick's 'Discussion Structure Dispersed, Silver and Alcohol', Shirana Shahbazi's 'True Love' series, Allen Ruppersberg's collection rearrangement, Piero Golia's carpet, and Tacita Dean's 'Rayon vert'. The exhibition's elusive goal was never defined, functioning as a vanishing point toward which all activity concentrated. It prioritized spectator agency, leaving room for subjective engagement without promising easy rewards or complicity. Didier Arnaudet wrote the press text.
