Drake's Rare Rolex GMT-Master II from 'Take Care' Album Cover Listed for $500,000

A rare Rolex GMT-Master II worn by Drake on the cover of his 2011 album 'Take Care' is being offered for sale at $500,000 by watch dealer Eric Wind of Wind Vintage. The watch, reference 116758SANR, features 36 baguette-cut diamonds and 12 black sapphires on its bezel, with an 18-karat gold case and Oyster bracelet. It was originally purchased in 2011 and comes from one of Drake's early-career colleagues. The timepiece shows minor wear on the clasp and is unpolished, with unknown service history but reportedly running well. It includes the original box, papers, and memorabilia from Drake's October's Very Own brand, such as an OWL statue, clothing, and backstage passes. Released in 2006 and believed discontinued in 2012, this model is considered rarer than the Daytona 'Rainbow' and GMT-Master II 'Saru', with pre-owned examples typically trading around $100,000. Drake wore it for album photography by Hyghly Alleyne and Lamar Taylor, as well as in the 'Marvin's Room' music video. The album sold over 10 million copies and earned a Grammy. Rolex does not disclose production numbers, but few were likely made due to intricate hand-setting of gems by master jewelers. The caseback is engraved with the OVO logo, making it a unique piece. Drake's collection also includes a Patek Philippe Nautilus customized by Virgil Abloh and an off-catalog Rolex Sky-Dweller.
