Dr. Stephen J. Bury Appointed Andrew W. Mellon Chief Librarian at Frick Art Reference Library

The Frick Collection has appointed Dr. Stephen J. Bury as the Andrew W. Mellon Chief Librarian of the Frick Art Reference Library. Previously, he was the Deputy Director at the British Library, overseeing European and American Collections, Maps, Music, and Philatelic Collections for ten years, where he played a key role in modernizing the library through technology and staff training. Dr. Bury earned his PhD in Art History from Birkbeck College, London, focusing on critic John Ruskin. His skills in digitization and collection sharing align with the Frick's goals. In addition to his library work, he has taught printmaking and bookmaking at Chelsea College of Art & Design and the Royal College of Art during the 1980s and 1990s and has curated exhibitions and contributed to art publications. The Frick Art Reference Library, founded in 1920 by Helen Clay Frick, facilitates research in Western art history.
