DR Congo Tests Over 300 Passengers After Suspected Ebola Death on River Boat

Congolese health authorities intercepted a river vessel in Maluku, about 65km from Kinshasa, to screen more than 300 passengers after a suspected Ebola death on board. The operation was launched following a report from Mongala province that a 32-year-old man, believed to have traveled on the vessel, died on July 25 with suspected Ebola. A mobile laboratory was deployed, and all passengers underwent temperature checks and clinical screening. Samples from four passengers with fever were sent for testing, with results expected on Friday. Body Ilonga Bompoko, secretary general of the health ministry, confirmed the screening. Officials have given differing accounts of the man's movements and potential exposure. The incident raises concerns about the spread of the virus along the Congo River.
