Dove Ellis: Mysterious Folk Newcomer Releases Debut Album 'Blizzard'

Dove Ellis, a 22-year-old musician from Galway, Ireland now based in Manchester, has released his debut album 'Blizzard' on indie label Black Butter Records. Despite major label interest, Ellis chose the smaller label, which digitally released the album in late 2025, with a vinyl edition following in 2026. Ellis maintains a low public profile, declining interviews and sharing little personal information on social media, a stance some view as a marketing strategy but others see as genuine introversion. His music blends classic singer-songwriter folk with chamber pop, featuring instruments like piano, clarinet, cello, and accordion, with his falsetto vocals drawing comparisons to Thom Yorke, Jeff Buckley, Zach Condon, and Conor O'Brien. Ellis self-produced the album, which showcases emotional range from suffering to defiance within single tracks. His lyrics are poetic and associative, often ambiguous, with songs like 'Love is' stating 'Love is not the antidote to all your problems' and 'Features, Cash' offering vivid imagery. Before the album's release, Ellis supported the band Geese on their US tour.
