Douglas Stuart to Read from 'John of John' in Berlin and Hamburg

Douglas Stuart, the Booker Prize-winning author, will present his third novel 'John of John' in Germany this September. The book, which has been nominated for the Booker Prize 2026, is considered a strong contender for book of the year. Stuart will hold two readings: on September 4 at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele in Berlin, and on September 5 at the Literaturhaus Hamburg. The novel follows Cal, who returns to the Hebrides after fleeing to Edinburgh, to confront his father John, a strict Presbyterian tweed weaver. The story explores themes of duty, delusion, love, shame, and the transformative power of truth. Stuart's debut novel 'Shuggie Bain' won the Booker Prize 2020 and became a worldwide bestseller, published in 40 countries. His second novel 'Young Mungo' was also well-received. The readings are part of a promotional tour for 'John of John', which is published by Hanser Verlag.
