Douglas Gordon damages HOME Manchester walls with prop axe after negative reviews
Turner Prize-winner Douglas Gordon caused damage to the walls of HOME Manchester, a new £25 million venue, using a prop axe from his play Neck Of The Woods. The incident occurred during the Manchester International Festival, where Gordon was directing the production. According to BBC Radio, the destructive act was prompted by several unfavorable reviews the show had received. Gordon subsequently drew a wolf's paw around the damaged area, referencing the play's basis on the story of 'Little Red Riding Hood'. Alex Poots, CEO and artistic director of MIF, requested that Gordon cover the repair costs, explicitly stating he did not support or condone reckless, inappropriate, or intimidating behavior. The Manchester Evening News reported on the event, which took place in July 2015.
