Dots to Specific Unveils Memorial Photo Collage in Marina di Ragusa
On August 24, 2019, the cultural association Dots to Specific inaugurated a large photographic collage on the wall of a building at Via Cagliari 26-28 in Marina di Ragusa, Sicily. The work, titled 13 IV 1941, commemorates a plane crash that occurred on April 14, 1941, when a German military aircraft fell, killing five people. The project is the first in situ installation by Dots to Specific, a nonprofit founded by photographer Melissa Carnemolla and curator Erica Parrino, who aim to promote local cultural heritage through site-specific works. The installation was supported by the Municipality of Ragusa, with collaboration from the tourism and entertainment councilor, and was part of the Estate Iblea program. The collage uses photographic images arranged like a puzzle, accompanied by texts from historical archives that document the event and include eyewitness accounts. Parrino stated that the installation creates a "non-place" for subjective viewing, distinct from traditional exhibition spaces. The installation process was filmed for a documentary.
