Dotdotdot designs immersive 'Palazzo Treccani' for encyclopedia's centenary

To mark its 100th anniversary in 2025, the Istituto dell'Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani has opened 'Palazzo Treccani', an immersive exhibition at Palazzo Mattei di Paganica in Rome, designed by Milan-based multidisciplinary studio Dotdotdot. The show, running until April 30, transforms the ground-floor spaces of the palace—where Treccani established its headquarters in 1927 and inaugurated Spazio Treccani Arte in 2023—into an interactive 'imaginary museum of knowledge'. Visitors begin in the Galleria della conoscenza, a multimedia timeline featuring oversized books that explore Treccani's activities: encyclopedias, art books, Italian language studies, and new projects under the 'Galassia Treccani' umbrella. Next, the Studiolo dell'intellettuale reimagines a Renaissance study with an interactive installation centered on the first Grande Enciclopedia (1929–1937), allowing visitors to explore 30,000 digitized images categorized as naturalia, mirabilia, and artificialia. The exhibition is designed as a modular, itinerant project; the first two rooms will eventually expand to six spaces that can be replicated in other venues across Italy and worldwide. Entry is free, Monday to Friday, 10 am to 6 pm. The project was conceived by Dotdotdot, known for installations bridging design, technology, and narrative.
