Dorte Mandrup's The Whale Rises Along Norway's Arctic Coast

Construction is underway on The Whale, a new cultural and scientific hub located on Andøya island, Norway, approximately 300 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. Developed by Danish architect Dorte Mandrup, this project emerged from a global design competition held in 2019. The center boasts a modern, understated architecture that integrates seamlessly with the surrounding coastal environment. Key features include a unique roof structure that promotes a spacious interior, complemented by local materials to enhance its scenic vistas of the Norwegian Sea. Planned amenities include exhibition areas, cafes, offices, and retail spaces, aimed at showcasing local marine life and attracting visitors.
