Doris Salcedo Wins First Nasher Prize for Sculpture

The inaugural Nasher Prize, a $100,000 annual award recognizing a living sculptor's extraordinary impact, has been given to Colombian artist Doris Salcedo. Launched by the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, Texas, the prize includes a commemorative award designed by architect Renzo Piano. Salcedo, who works primarily in sculpture and installation from her Bogotá base, currently has a retrospective at New York's Guggenheim Museum. Her work has been featured in major international exhibitions including Documenta XI in Kassel, the XXIV São Paulo Biennial, and the 8th Istanbul Biennial. Previous solo presentations include commissions for Tate Modern's Turbine Hall, shows at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Tate Britain, and Moderna Museet in Malmö.
