Doppelgaenger Bari launches annual Chiara Fumai tribute project
Galleria Doppelgaenger in Bari inaugurates 'Il tesoro della Città della Donne' on June 27, 2018, the first edition of an annual project dedicated to Chiara Fumai (Rome, 1978 – Bari, 2017), who died at the gallery in August 2017 at age 39. The project takes its name from the title Fumai had chosen for a never-realized solo show, which was to be an ironic retrospective featuring puppets of characters from her performances. The inaugural exhibition, 'Secret Eyes Only,' features Goldschmied & Chiari (Sara Goldschmied, b. 1975; Eleonora Chiari, b. 1971), friends and colleagues of Fumai. The title references a CIA stamp used to classify documents after the Watergate scandal. The show includes a video of the same name, made in collaboration with Swedish artist and choreographer Lotta Melin, showing dancer Henriette Wallberg's hands on velvet to Morse code repeating 'stay behind.' First exhibited in Stockholm in 2012, it now debuts in Italy. Goldschmied & Chiari's work since 2014 focuses on 20th-century historical events, particularly secret services' influence on politics and society.
