Doom Now Runs on a Canon EOS 550D DSLR via Magic Lantern
Doom, the iconic first-person shooter from 1993, has been adapted for the 2010 Canon EOS 550D through the Magic Lantern software. Developer Bas Lichtjaar released the experimental module on GitHub, complete with installation guidelines. The game operates on the camera's 720x480 screen, utilizing the built-in speaker for sound. Players navigate as Doomguy using the camera's buttons, and a concealed cheat-code menu is available. The EOS 550D maintains its role as a DSLR, equipped with an 18-megapixel sensor and nine autofocus points. Magic Lantern boosts the camera's functionality, broadening the ISO range and introducing features like RAW video recording. Lichtjaar cautions that the module is experimental and unsuitable for other models. PetaPixel reported on the project on August 19, 2026.
