Donato Sansone's Surreal Retrospective at Turin's Cinema Museum

The Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Turin has opened 'Metaversi', a major retrospective of Donato Sansone (born 1974 in Bella, Italy), curated by Bruno Di Marino. Running until September 8, 2025, the exhibition spans twenty years of the artist's career, featuring eight thematic sections spread across the museum's welcome floor. Sansone, known for his surreal and grotesque imagery, works across video, animation, and drawing, often collaborating with sound designer Enrico Ascoli. Highlights include 'Il suono animato' with music videos for Verdena, Subsonica, and Manuel Agnelli; 'Videogioco e Dark Globe' featuring the short film 'Videogioco'; and 'XXX', an adults-only peep-show section. The exhibition also includes phenakistiscopes—pre-cinema devices—though they malfunction due to design flaws. A catalog published by Silvana Editoriale contains 60 plates from Sansone's graphic novel 'Il gatto'.
