Donald Rodney: Autoicon Book Launch at Stuart Hall Library
On October 9, 2023, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, iniva hosts the launch of Afterall's One Works publication 'Donald Rodney: Autoicon' by Richard Birkett at the Stuart Hall Library. The event features a reading by Birkett, joined by interdisciplinary artist Gary Stewart, and a poetry reading by artist and writer Amy Ching-Yan Lam. The book examines Donald Rodney's posthumous web and CD-ROM work 'Autoicon', first launched at iniva in 2000. Conceived in the mid-1990s, the work was completed after Rodney's death from sickle cell anaemia by the group Donald Rodney plc, including Eddie Chambers, Richard Hylton, Virginia Nimarkoh, Keith Piper, Diane Symons, and overseen by Mike Phillips, Adrian Ward, Geoff Cox at STAR, University of Plymouth, and Gary Stewart at iniva. The publication offers a study of the work as a form of dispersed memory challenging authorship. The event is free with registration, and refreshments are served.
