Don Porcaro's 'Talisman' and 'Nomad' sculptures installed at Hudson Boulevard Park through October 2018
Don Porcaro's distinctive bronze, marble, and brass sculptures have been installed at Hudson Boulevard Park in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood. His 'Talisman' series features stacked cylindrical forms that resemble whimsical stupas, positioned at the park's 34th Street entrance between 10th and 11th avenues. Additionally, fifty 'Nomad' figures line a landscaped islet within one of the park's three fountains. These works were commissioned for the park and will remain on view through October 13, 2018. The sculptures reflect the ambivalent relationship between long-term residents and the rapid development transforming the area around Hudson Yards. Porcaro himself has been a longtime resident of Hell's Kitchen, which maintained an active artistic community before the arrival of major infrastructure projects like the 7 Subway extension and observation platforms. The park spans from West 33rd to West 36th Streets, situated mid-block between 10th and 11th avenues. Porcaro's creations serve as both guardians and celebrants of the neighborhood's evolving character.
