Dominik Lang Transforms Prague Gallery into Unfinished Public Garden

Dominik Lang's exhibition 'Let's go outside, even if it rains!' at Hunt Kastner in Prague's Žižkov district reimagines Land art and relational aesthetics for urban space. Lang rebuilt the patch of land behind the gallery into a public garden, but the project remained intentionally unfinished even a month after its stated completion. Inside, blueprints with Lang's jottings hung on walls, and a long table displayed unearthed objects like broken pottery, a soggy football, and a tatty doll's head, presented as archaeological finds. Curator Edith Jeřábková's text warned viewers would see process over completion, with rubble, soil heaps, and tools covered in tarpaulin. The outdoor space featured dunes of earth, grit, and debris, a shattered concrete slab leaning against a cylindrical plant-pot, and a huge stone sphere. Lang's intervention avoids theoretical debates about Land art or relational aesthetics, instead emphasizing the act of labour—digging, mixing concrete, planting ferns. The work protests the financial deformation of artistic abstraction, tied to Prague's transformation into a luxury tourist destination and emerging art market. The unfinished outdoor space serves as both a respite from economic pressures and an invitation to collective rebuilding. Exhibition ran from 4 May to 24 June at Hunt Kastner.
