Domenico Bianchi Debuts at Poggiali Gallery in Florence with Marble and Wax Works

Domenico Bianchi (b. 1955, Anagni) presents his first exhibition at Poggiali Gallery in Florence, featuring recent wax works and two new marble interventions from 2022. The show coincides with citywide celebrations of Donatello, master of stiacciato. Bianchi, a repeat participant at the Venice Biennale, combines Carrara white marble with lapis lazuli on a two-dimensional surface, while his wax-on-fiberglass pieces expand his signature technique with a renewed chromatic range. All compositions originate from a geometric matrix—circles and broken circumferences—that propagates from the center, embodying a 'poetically cosmological' vision. The artist manipulates material thickness to create depth, allowing light to penetrate otherwise inaccessible spaces, resulting in works that transcend traditional painting and engage with architectural space and illumination.
