Dodi Moss and Edoardo Tresoldi's Unbuilt Italian Pavilion for Expo 2020 Dubai

architecture-design · 2026-05-04

Dodi Moss, a Genoa-based design studio, has released images of its proposed Italian Pavilion for Expo 2020 Dubai, designed in collaboration with artist Edoardo Tresoldi. The project, which placed third in the competition organized by Invitalia, was ultimately not selected; the winning design by Carlo Ratti and Italo Rota will represent Italy. Tresoldi, known for his spectacular wire mesh installations previously seen in the UAE, contributed his signature metal structures to the pavilion. The design features a large volume with negative spaces evoking Italian palaces and courtyards, creating a tactile and visual journey. The studio describes the layering of transparent, material, and vegetal elements as a "ruin of memory" referencing Italy's millennial cultural history. The article by Claudia Giraud was published on Artribune in April 2019.
