Documentary Series Explores Flores & Prats' Poetic Restoration of Sala Beckett in Barcelona

The web series ESCALA 1:5, produced by 15-L Film and directed by Patricia Tamayo and Albert Badia, documents the restoration of Sala Beckett – Obrador Internacional de Dramaturgia in Barcelona by architects Ricardo Flores and Eva Prats of Flores & Prats Architects. Completed in 2016, the project transformed a dilapidated 1920s building into a theater while preserving its historical layers and 'ghosts.' The series, available on The Architecture Player's Vimeo channel, consists of five episodes focusing on specific elements: Roofs and Walls, Doors and Windows, Pavements, Stairs, and Furniture. It features interviews with Toni Casares (director of Sala Beckett), playwright Sergi Belbel, artists Soraya Smithson and Antoni Miralda, and designer Curro Claret. The restoration has been recognized with the City of Barcelona Architecture Prize and the Living – Spaces Simon Architecture Prize, and was nominated for the Beazley Designs of the Year Award, ENOR Awards, FAD Architecture Prize, and Mies van der Rohe 2017 Prize.
