Documentary 'Precisamos falar do assédio' collects testimonies from 140 women in Brazil

A documentary video installation titled 'Precisamos falar do assédio' will be exhibited at SESC Santana from March 1 to 31, presenting eight hours of raw footage. Directed by Paula Sacchetta and produced by Mira Filmes, the project features testimonies from 140 women, aged 14 to 85, who experienced harassment ranging from offensive comments to rape. The film emerged from a mobile van studio that traveled to nine locations in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, offering a private space for women to speak, often for the first time. Many testimonies reveal abuse by acquaintances in positions of power, such as teachers or doctors. The project includes a partnership with the Secretaria Municipal de Políticas para Mulheres de São Paulo, providing legal and psychological support. A Datafolha survey released on March 21, commissioned by the Fórum de Segurança Pública, indicates one-third of Brazilians believe the victim is to blame for rape, with an estimated 500,000 rapes occurring annually in Brazil, 70% of which involve child and adolescent victims.
