Documentary 'Otro Renacimiento' explores Renaissance ties between Naples and Madrid on Sky Arte

The documentary 'Otro Renacimiento. Da Napoli a Madrid, dal Prado a Capodimonte' premieres on Sky Arte on Thursday, February 20, 2025 (available from Friday, February 21). Produced by 3D Produzioni and directed by Valeria Parisi, with subject by Didi Gnocchi and screenplay by Arianna Marelli, the film originates from an exhibition organized two years ago by the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte and the Museo Nacional del Prado. It is an on-the-road journey analyzing works by great Spanish artists selected for the show, reconstructing the genesis of Renaissance masterpieces created in centers such as Naples, Madrid, Barcelona, and Granada. The documentary offers behind-the-scenes access to the exhibition, including restoration, setup, and movement of artworks, and extends beyond the museums to churches and noble palaces housing Renaissance treasures. Contributors include curators, contemporary artists, architects, experts, and the directors of both museums. The film reflects on the cultural identity of Italy and Spain, touching on language (the Neapolitan dialect's affinity with Spanish), the sense of the sacred, attitudes toward death, and the management of heritage, recognizing art's ability to build bridges between cultures.
