Documentary on Zahi Hawass, the 'Last Pharaoh' of Archaeology, Now Streaming

A new documentary titled 'The Man with the Hat' explores the life and career of Zahi Hawass, the iconic Egyptian archaeologist. Directed by Jeff Roth, the film won the Newport Beach Festival and is available on major US streaming platforms including AppleTV, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Google Play, and Fandango. The documentary offers unprecedented access to Hawass's personal life, including his birthplace in the Nile Delta, his home, and his legendary study. It highlights his ability to turn archaeological discoveries into global media events, his relationships with world leaders and celebrities like George Lucas, and his ongoing campaigns for the repatriation of Egyptian artifacts such as the bust of Nefertiti from Berlin, the Rosetta Stone from London, and the Dendera Zodiac from Paris. The film also covers his battles against envy and accusations during his tenure at Egyptian institutions, his role in breaking the colonial monopoly of Egyptology, and his vision for the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). Beyond archaeology, Hawass has written a novel 'Cheope: il mistero della camera segreta' and an opera titled 'Tutankhamon' with libretto by Francesco Santocono and music by Lino Zimbone, premiering in Cairo on February 4. He will receive the 'Presidio Culturale Internazionale' award in Naples in October. The documentary is currently in negotiations for Italian distribution.
