publication · 2026-05-04

A trailer has been released for the documentary 'Infinity', directed by Heather Lenz, which chronicles the life of Yayoi Kusama. Now 89, Kusama is a globally renowned artist whose exhibitions sell out and works fetch millions at auction. However, her path to success was arduous: growing up in Japan during WWII in a family that discouraged her creative ambitions, and later facing sexism and racism in the New York art world, as well as her own mental illness. In 1977, she voluntarily moved permanently to a psychiatric hospital in Seiwa, Japan. The film interweaves her private and public life, artistic research, and personal history. 'Infinity' is set for release on September 7 in the United States.
