publication · 2026-05-05

A new documentary on Pino Pascali (Bari, 1935 – Roma, 1968) will premiere on January 21 at 7 PM at the Fondazione Pino Pascali in Polignano a Mare. Directed by Maurizio Sciarra from an idea by art critic Anna D'Elia, the film is titled "Sull'orlo della gloria. La vita e le opere di Pino Pascali" and serves as a tribute to the artist, shot in Puglia, Rome, Paris, London, and New York. The project aims to reconstruct Pascali's human and artistic story, as he died tragically in 1968 at age 33. The documentary features testimonies from those close to the artist, including Angela Rorro, artist and gallerist Topazia Alliata, set designer Dante Ferretti, art historian Vittorio Rubiu, gallerist Fabio Sargentini, critic Pietro Marino, artists Claudio Palmieri, Michelangelo Pistoletto, and Luca Patella, and restorer Rodolfo Corrias, all accompanied by actress Paola Pitagora's narration. This film follows a 2003 documentary by Marco Giusti, "Pino Pascali o le trasformazioni del serpente" (2003), produced by Rai and awarded the Premio Pino Pascali that same year, later acquired by the Foundation. Giusti's film collected many drawings, sketches, and drafts Pascali made for Carosello, TV themes, and products made with Lodolo film.
