Documentary on Maria Lai to Air on Rai5 Tomorrow Evening

A documentary titled 'Sulle tracce di Maria Lai' (On the Trail of Maria Lai), directed by Maddalena Bregani and produced by LAGALLA23 productions, will air tomorrow, May 29, on Rai5 at 9:30 PM as part of the program Art Night. The film explores the life and work of Sardinian artist Maria Lai (1919–2013), known for her use of bread as a sculptural material. It includes an unpublished excerpt featuring testimony from her friend Maria Puddu, where Lai describes her childhood experiences making bread with women at home as her 'first academy.' The documentary traces a circular narrative beginning and ending in Ulassai, the village in Sardinia where Lai was born and where she returned to live in her later years. Through voices of her niece, friends, collaborators, artists, and art historians, the film reconstructs her extraordinary figure as a woman and artist. After the broadcast, the documentary will be available on RaiPlay starting Saturday, May 30. The program also includes films dedicated to Emilio Vedova and Gilberto Zorio.
