Documentary on Gabriele Basilico premieres on Sky Arte

A documentary film titled 'Basilico. L’infinito è là in fondo' premieres on Sky Arte on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 21:15, streaming on NOW and available on demand. Directed by Stefano Santamato, the film explores the life and career of Milanese photographer Gabriele Basilico (1944–2013), known for his architectural photography. It features interviews with Stefano Boeri, G.B. Gardin, Oliviero Toscani, Toni Thorimbert, art historian Roberta Valtorta, and filmmaker Amos Gitai, with narration by Giovanna Calvenzi, Basilico's partner and photo editor. The title comes from a phrase Basilico wrote on his photograph 'Merlimont Plage, 1985' during the Mission Photographique de la D.A.T.A.R. The documentary coincides with an exhibition at Palazzo Reale and Triennale di Milano marking the tenth anniversary of Basilico's death. Basilico graduated in architecture from Politecnico di Milano but chose photography, starting with his series 'Milano. Ritratti di fabbriche' presented at PAC in 1983. He collaborated with Stefano Boeri and Álvaro Siza, and exhibited at venues including the Venice Biennale and SFMOMA. In his 2007 essay 'Architetture, Città, Visioni: Riflessioni Sulla Fotografia', he described his 'slowness of gaze' approach.
