Documentary on Bethlehem Basilica Restoration Airs on Sky Arte
On Sunday, December 24, Sky Arte HD will broadcast the documentary "La Basilica di Betlemme ‒ Restaurare il cielo," directed by Tommaso Santi. The film focuses on the restoration of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2012. The project, initiated in 2013, was commissioned by the Palestinian National Authority and the three churches managing the basilica—Catholic, Greek Orthodox, and Armenian. Over 170 professionals have been involved, led by the restoration company Piacenti of Prato, Italy. Work began with roof replacement and truss recovery, followed by restoration of Byzantine mosaics and interior walls. The documentary highlights the symbolic significance of this interfaith effort, bringing together people of different religions from around the world to restore a shared architectural treasure.
