Documentary on Banksy's Bataclan mural theft premieres on Rai 5
A documentary titled 'Banksy e la ragazza del Bataclan,' directed by Edoardo Anselmi and co-written with Claudio Centioni, investigates the theft of Banksy's mural commemorating the 2015 Bataclan attack. The artwork, created in 2018 on a security door of the Parisian concert hall, depicted a veiled sad-faced girl and became a symbol for the community. It was stolen in January 2019, later recovered in Italy in June 2020, and returned to its original site. The film features interviews with key witnesses, including the French Judicial Police commander present during the attack, one of the thieves, and the suspected mastermind. Italian interviewees include Carmelo Grasso, former commander of the Carabinieri Cultural Heritage Protection Unit of Ancona, and Brigadier Emiliano Ferrante, who found the artwork. The documentary is produced by GA&A Productions and Guilhène Iop for Tinkerland, in co-production with ARTE G.E.I.E., RAI Cultura, and Luce Cinecittà, in collaboration with RAI Teche and in association with RTS and RTBF. It premieres on Tuesday, November 7, at Palazzo Farnese in Rome, at the French Embassy in Italy, and airs on Wednesday, November 8, at 9:15 PM on Rai 5 as part of the program 'Art Night' directed by Neri Marcorè.
