Documentary 'Le Anime Sante' Chronicles Restoration of L'Aquila's Earthquake-Damaged Church
The documentary 'Le Anime Sante', directed by Luca Cococcetta and produced by Visioni Future, focuses on the restoration of the Church of Santa Maria del Suffragio in L'Aquila, which became a symbol of the 2009 earthquake. The church was originally built in memory of victims of the 1703 earthquake, with construction spanning over a century, but locals immediately called it 'Anime Sante' (Holy Souls). The 2009 quake severely damaged it, and live television footage of its dome collapsing became iconic images of the disaster. Ten years later, the documentary, available for rental or purchase on Visioni Future's website, tells the story of one of the most complex recovery and restoration projects in the rebuilding of L'Aquila. For each transaction from viewing the film, €1 will be donated to the city's Red Cross.
