Documentary 'La casa' explores García Márquez's Mexico City home

The 2025 documentary 'La casa,' helmed by Eva Villaseñor, takes viewers back to the Mexico City residence where Gabriel García Márquez penned 'Cien años de soledad' (1967). Featuring insights from his sons, Rodrigo and Gonzalo García Barcha, the film delves into Casa Estudio Cien Años de Soledad located at Cerrada de la Loma 19, under the direction of Juan Villoro. Showcased at the Festival de Cine Al Margen, Villaseñor sought to offer a more personal glimpse into García Márquez's life through family anecdotes. The documentary includes memories of their simple home, music from 'El gallo de oro' (1964), visits from Álvaro Mutis, and a recording of García Márquez sharing his dreams, emphasizing his affectionate role as a father and the house's importance in the novel's development.
