Documentary 'I Love Lucca Comics and Games' Premieres at Rome Film Fest

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

A new documentary titled 'I Love Lucca Comics and Games,' directed by Manlio Castagna, premiered in the Freestyle Arts section of the Festa del Cinema di Roma. The film explores the Lucca Comics & Games festival not as a mere event but as a collective form of life, focusing on the community rather than celebrities. Castagna describes the festival as a reversal of the mask concept: in daily life people disguise themselves to fit in, but at Lucca they wear masks to reveal their true selves. The documentary was produced by All At Once in collaboration with Lucca Crea, distributed by I Wonder Pictures in collaboration with Unipol Biografilm Collection. It features notable figures such as author Licia Troisi, the creators of Tetris, and R.L. Stine, author of the Goosebumps series, who was moved at Puccini's house. Filming during the crowded festival was challenging; Castagna consulted the weather forecast more than cinema schedules. The film will be released in theaters from November 10 to 12.
