Documentary 'I Am Martin Parr' Celebrates the Photographer of Kitsch

A documentary titled 'I Am Martin Parr,' directed by Lee Shulman, explores the career of British photographer Martin Parr, known for his kitsch and paradoxical images that elevate the everyday. The film premiered at the Rome Film Festival and will be released in Italian cinemas on February 17, 2025, by Wanted Cinema. It was previously screened at Cinema Modernissimo in Bologna in December 2024. The documentary follows Parr's relentless work, capturing contemporary society with a tender, critical, and mischievous mirror. Shulman and Parr met in Arles in 2019 during Shulman's presentation of 'The Anonymous Project,' a collection of vintage slides from the 1950s to 1980s. Their collaboration led to the photobook 'Déjà View,' published in 2021 by Editions Textuel. Parr's photographs will also be featured in the exhibition 'Chromotherapia. La fotografia a colori che rende felici,' curated by Maurizio Cattelan and Sam Stourdzé, opening February 28 at Villa Medici in Rome.
