Documentary 'Dino's Dark Room' Celebrates Photographer Dino Pedriali

publication · 2026-04-27

A documentary titled 'Dino's Dark Room,' directed by Corrado Rizza, will premiere on June 9 at the rhinoceros gallery of Fondazione Alda Fendi – Esperimenti in Rome, as part of the 'Lady Alda Presents' program. The film honors Dino Pedriali, a Roman photographer who died in 2021 during the COVID-19 emergency. Art critic Peter Weiermair compared Pedriali to Caravaggio, calling him the 'Caravaggio of 20th-century photography' for his ability to elevate proletarian models. Pedriali's series on Man Ray and Pier Paolo Pasolini are part of the Fendi collection. Rizza conceived the documentary after viewing Pedriali's photos of Pasolini taken days before Pasolini's death in 1975. Pedriali also collaborated with Andy Warhol and considered Man Ray his first master. The film includes testimonies from critic Achille Bonito Oliva, who dedicated a book cover to Pedriali, and Raffaele Curi, who knew him as a young assistant to gallerist Luciano Anselmino.
