Documentary 'Città Novecento' explores Italy's 20th-century foundation cities
The documentary film 'Città Novecento,' directed by Dario Biello and produced by Filmedea, will be released in Italian cinemas on March 14, 15, and 16. It was presented at the Festa del Cinema di Roma. This pilot episode is the first of a planned series on 20th- and 21st-century foundation cities, following UNESCO recognition of Crespi d'Adda, Ivrea, and Asmara. The film features Alessandro Haber, Antonio Pennacchi (in his last film interview), Massimo Cacciari, and architecture historians. The narrative centers on Colleferro as an archetypal foundation city, tracing its evolution from a Liberty-style workers' village through Riccardo Morandi's urban plan to a rationalist city in the 1930s and a postwar company town. In 2022, Colleferro was named European Capital of Space.
