Documentary 'Andy Warhol. American Dream' Explores Artist's Origins
A new documentary film, 'Andy Warhol. American Dream,' directed by Ľubomír Ján Slivka, examines the early life of Andy Warhol before he became a pop art icon. The film focuses on his humble beginnings as the son of Slovak immigrants, his upbringing in Pittsburgh, his studies at Carnegie Tech University, and his first home in New York. It also covers the 1968 assassination attempt by Valerie Solanas, his death, and burial site. The documentary features intimate interviews and personal materials, including testimonies from Warhol's nephews Donald Warhola, vice president of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and James Warhola, an illustrator. It was made with support from the Warhol family, The Andy Warhol Museum, the Andy Warhol Museum in Medzilaborce (Slovakia), the Slovak National Gallery, the Prague City Gallery, and the Andy Warhol Foundation. The film is the fourth title in the 'La Grande Arte al Cinema' series by Nexo Studios and will be released in theaters on May 6 and 7, 2025.
