Documentando: Free Online Archive of Italian Documentaries Launches

On December 15, 2022, the free digital platform Documentando. Archivio del Documentario Italiano was launched to archive and stream Italian documentaries. This initiative, developed by D.E-R Documentaristi dell’Emilia Romagna in partnership with Regione Emilia Romagna and Fondazione del Monte di Bologna e Ravenna, is an evolution of the previous Documentando.com project from 2006, which served as a video catalog for documentary filmmakers in Emilia-Romagna. Following the discontinuation of Flash Player by Adobe, the platform has been reconstructed into a comprehensive archive featuring 160 documentaries from the early 2000s, categorized into twelve themes, with on-demand streaming to safeguard out-of-commerce films. Notable entries include "Erberto Carboni, dal futurismo al Bauhaus" (1998, dir. Francesco Barilli) and "Lucio Bernardi, l’artista artigiano" (2020). Plans for future expansion include digitizing older formats like U-Matic and VHS.
