Documenta 14 in Kassel: Second Day Confirms Initial Skepticism with Glimmers of Quality

The second day of Documenta 14 in Kassel largely confirms the initial negative impression, though a few bright spots emerge. The exhibition is criticized for overestimating art's role, geopolitical paternalism, and didactic handling of sensitive topics. Curatorial and organizational sloppiness is evident: poor graphics, nonexistent wayfinding, delayed installations, and overcrowded venues like the Neue Galerie, where historical works are placed without dialogue. Notable exceptions include Gianikian and Ricci Lucchi, Maria Lai, Geta Bratescu, and Maria Eichhorn.
